The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced temporary closure of a section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass for 28 days.

In a public notice on Wednesday, December 27, KeNHA Director General Kung'u Ndung'u said the section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass (both bounds) between Lang'ata Interchange and Ngong Interchange will be closed from December 27, 2023 to January 23, 2024.

The closure will facilitate installation of Virtual Weighbridge along the section.

"To minimize the traffic disruption, the closure will involve one lane of each carriageway at a time," the KeNHA boss said.

"Motorists therefore, are required to use one lane of each carriageway on both bounds."

Ndung'u also urged road users to exercise caution as they approach the section and to follow the traffic signs and guidance in place.

At the same time, KeNHA announced a partial closure of five roundabouts along Uhuru Highway for five days.

The authority said the closure, meant to allow for highway maintenance works along the sections, will commence on Thursday, December 28 and run until January 1, 2024.

The affected roundabouts are Nyayo Stadium, Bunyala, Haile Selassie Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue and University Way.

Mombasa Road closure

On Sunday, KeNHA also announced temporary closure of a section of Mombasa Road for seven days.

The affected area is the Mombasa-bound carriageway at the lmaara Mall (Tuff Steel) Junction along Mombasa Road (A8) Highway.

The closure began on Monday, December 25, 2023 and will continue until Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 4:00 am.

During this period, two lanes will be closed to facilitate excavation and the installation of a cross culvert along the affected section. Traffic diversion will be implemented near the Tegla Loroupe Road.

KeNHA advised motorists to use the two Mombasa-bound lanes during this period and exercise caution in the construction zone.
