Senate set to convene first meeting today

The Senate is set to convene its first sitting today, Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

According to a statement shared by the Parliament of Kenya, the senate members will discuss the approval of senators to serve in the Senate Business Committee (SBC).

"Seven Senators have been nominated to serve in the crucial Committee in addition to the Speaker of the Senate, who shall be the Chairperson of the Committee, the Senate Majority Leader, the Senate Minority leader, the Senate Majority whip and the Senate Minority Whip," the statement reads in parts.

Among the senators nominated are Sen.Roba Ali Ibrahim, Sen.Veronica Waheti Nduati, Sen Wakili Hillary Kiprotich Sigei,Sen Maureen Tabitha Mutinda, Sen.(Prof) Margaret Kamar,EGH, Sen.Mwinyihaji Faki and Sen. Ledama Olekina.

Additionally, the senate will also debate on President William Ruto's address during the opening of the 13th parliament on September 29, 2022.

The function of the SBC is to oversee the implementation of the senate business and legislative programmes and adjust the senate calendar.
