Senators in five-day induction at Naivasha

Senators will from this morning start a five-day induction retreat at Sawela Lodge in Naivasha ahead of the official start of their House business next week.

The 67 senators who have already been sworn in will among other things be taken through the Senate leadership and the legislative agenda, the budget process, constitutional commissions and Independent offices and enhancing inter-governmental relations.

Themed ‘Understanding the mandate of the Senate: Strengthening Devolution through Legislative agenda’, the Senators will also be taken through the functions of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) and the parliamentary service, Legislative and Committee business in the Senate and the agenda for the Senate.

The induction will officially be opened by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi with Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen expected to take the Senators through the first session on the mandate and functions of the Senate.

The Senators will also be inducted on Media Relations and Public awareness, Democracy, Development and Non-State Actors as well as Kenya’s foreign policy and security.Among those expected to give a talk include Chief Justice Martha Koome and the newly elected Council of Governors (CoG) chair Anne Waiguru.
