Sevens stars to fight for Simbas positions

Collins Injera will lead Shujaa speedsters in a new mission to confirm their place in the Kenya Simbas squad set to kick off their preparations for the 2023 Rugby World Cup qualifiers at the RFUEA Grounds as from Thursday.

Simbas head coach Paul Odera has released his 81-man provisional squad made up of 66 locally available players and 15 others based abroad, including Shujaa forwards duo currently attached with Russia’s Zastava RFC -  Willy Ambaka and Oscar Ouma.

Mwamba’s ace Injera returns to the 15-aside scene since the 2018 World Cup repechage and alongside the experienced scoring machine are his club mates Tony Omondi and Billy Odhiambo.

Other sevens players in the team include Jacob Ojee, Geoffrey Okwach, Sammy Oliech and Dan Sikuta.

“Once the Kenya Cup league is over, we shall review the players and then reduce them to 40 players before settling down on a 35-man squad that will go for the RWC qualifiers. 

“This is a very important year for the Simbas and the Kenya Rugby Union as we look to make the World Cup for the first time in July,” Odera told the media.

The Simbas kick off their preparations for the 2023 Rugby World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday with morning sessions at the RFUEA Grounds.
