Sharks drown Ulinzi

Ulinzi Stars’ floundering fortune in the 2022/23 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League continued with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Kariobangi Sharks at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani yesterday.

Ulinzi, who lost 2-0 to AFC Leopards at the start of their league campaign last weekend, took a surprise lead in the 31st minute when former Tusker midfielder Boniface Muchiri found the back of the net from a tight angle.

The lead lasted for only four minutes as the Sharks bounced back with Kevin Munika scoring.

Sharks continued dictating pace which yielded the second goal in the 42nd minute through Fortune Omoto.

Ulinzi came back stronger in the dying minutes with raids of their own with Muchiri and Enos Ochieng both coming close.

In a match that was played at the same venue, Deogratius Ojok helped himself to a brace to propel Tusker to a huge 4-1 victory over Nairobi City Stars.

Tusker had things their way, were done and dusted late in the game when Jackson Macharia drilled in the fourth goal.

This was Simba wa Nairobi’s second defeat of the season after having succumbed 0-2 to Bidco United the previous week at Nyayo National Stadium.

Powerful header

On Saturday in Thika, record champions Gor Mahia grabbed a 2-1 win over hosts Bidco.

Benson Omalla opened the scoring for Gor in the 11th minute through a powerful header after receiving a cross from Boniface Omondi.

The Kenyan international almost got his brace in the 18th minute but his efforts went inches away from the target.

Boniface Omondi attempted to score a goal in the 39th minute that fell short after Bidco United defender Lambert Otieno nicked the ball from his feet, kicking the ball outside earning Gor Mahia a throw-in that did not bear fruits.

The half-time whistle closed the scores at 1-0 giving Gor Mahia a higher advantage over Bidco United.

After the breather, Gor’s Ernest Wendo was booked in the 51st minute, and a free-kick was awarded to Bidco United, however, Gor Mahia’s defence cleared the ball out of the danger zone.
