State orders schools in Lamu to reopen
The government has ordered the immediate reopening of schools in Lamu West Sub-County which were closed as a result of suspected Al-Shabaab attacks in the region.
This is after the government deployed more security personnel after an attack early this month by suspected al Shabab militants which led to the deaths of seven people in Lamu West sub County.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elung’ata who toured the region accompanied by Coast Regional Police Commander Manase Musyoka over the weekend deployed a multi- agency security team to restore normalcy in the area.
The schools ordered to be reopen include Juhudi Primary School, Salama, Holy Angle and Majembeni Primary and Secondary Schools and Muhamarani Primary.
Following the attacks, there has been tension in Juhudi, Witho, Mashagoni Kamukunji in Majembeni location and Bobo in Hindi location forcing people to flee their homes and seek refuge in nearby schools.
“We have deployed more security here and learning must now resume immediately because we have ensured that security is available for everyone, we are asking residents to provide information to security officers so that those involved or planning to commit crime can be dealt with early enough,” said Elungata.
