Teachers’ employer announces more than 7,000 vacancies

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has declared 4,000 vacancies in secondary schools to support the Government’s 100 per cent transition policy from primary.

In a notice, TSC Secretary Dr Nancy Macharia said teachers recruited will serve on permanent and pensionable terms of service.

“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Commission’s website not later than July 12,” said Macharia.

To qualify for recruitment of the 4,000 secondary teachers, a candidate must be a Kenyan, holder of at least a diploma in education and registered with TSC.

The TSC has also announced the promotion and deployment of 1,000 practising teachers in public primary schools.

To qualify for promotion, an applicant must be a Kenyan, holder of a P1 certificate or hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education with two teaching subjects. 

The candidates are also expected to have attained at least a mean grade of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination and a similar grade in two teaching subjects or its equivalent.

Qualification criteria

The applicant must also be serving under TSC.

“Applicants must ensure that certified copies of degree certificates and academic transcripts are filed to the Commission through TSC County Directors within one month of the date of this advertisement,” said Macharia.

TSC is also seeking to recruit 1000 primary school teachers, with successful ones expected to be posted to any part of the country and not necessarily in counties they are recruited.

Interested candidates must also be Kenyans, hold a P1 certificate and registered under TSC.  The TSC advert is expected to be put out to the public today.

Successful candidates for promotion will be appointed at T-scale 7, Grade C2 under Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) for teachers and will be deployed to schools where vacancies exist.

Macharia said that TSC recruitment guidelines 2021/22 financial year will apply to recruitment process.

“Successful candidates will be requires to present original academic and professional certificates, to or more application for employment will be disqualified,” said Macharia.

TSC is also advertising 2,987 vacancies for primary and 927 others for secondary to replace who have exited the service. She said recruitment is free of charge and warned applicants against being duped.
