The government is committed to supporting Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) in a bid to provide adequate technical skills and knowledge in order to achieve the country's Vision 2030.

This is according to the Principal Secretary-State Department of Vocational and Technical Training Dr. Margaret Mwakima, who noted that the government is keen on local skilled manpower tapped from the technical institutes for the growth of the economy.

Addressing 846 graduands at Mukiria Technical Training Institute in Meru County on Friday, she said the government has spent over Ksh100 billion to reform the TVET sector.

"Technical skills and innovation are critical to the future of Kenya and achievements of Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals and this can be fully achieved if we empower technical institutes," Mwakima said.

She added that the state department is in the process of increasing the number of national polytechnics to ensure the country and learners benefit fully from the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

"The government is working towards creating employment for the youths and promoting self-reliance so all the qualified students will be engaged on social, economic structure building gearing towards the industrialized middle-income economy," she added

She further said the government has invested huge resources in putting up more technical institutes and vocational centres in every sub-county.

Also addressing the graduands who excelled in various disciplines, Mukiria Principal Caroline Muguna said the institute has received tremendous growth despite various challenges.
