Three more die as 63 test positive for coronavirus

Sixty-three more people have tested positive bringing the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country to 98, 334, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement yesterday.

He said that the latest infections were detected from some 2, 134 samples tested in the last 24 hours, adding that 93 per cent of the new confirmed cases are asymptomatic.

According to the data, Nairobi leads with 43 new cases followed by Kakamega, Makueni,  Kilifi with three cases each and Busia, Kiambu, Murang’a and Laikipia reported two cases each. Nyeri, Nakuru, and Machakos reported one case each.

Kagwe revealed three more patients have succumbed to the disease,  pushing the number of fatalities to 1,713. 

“Our condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones,” he said.

At the same time, 226 patients have recovered from the disease; 221 from the Home Based Care programme and five from various hospitals, bringing the number of recoveries to 81,101.

He said that there are 687 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country while those under home management are 2, 190.

“31 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit,  20 of them being on ventilator support,” he said.
