UDA is the biggest political party in Kenya – Ruto declares
Deputy President William Ruto has declared the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as the biggest political party in Kenya.
In his address to grassroots delegates from Nakuru, Ruto took a swipe at Orange Democratic Movement's (ODM) Raila Odinga, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka and Amani National Congress’s (ANC) Musalia Mudavadi describing their political parties as regional and tribal based.
Speaking at his Karen residence, Nairobi on Thursday, September 2, Ruto said UDA is currently the biggest political party in Kenya in terms of MP's affiliated to it.
"As I speak to you today, the biggest political party in Kenya is UDA. If Raila assembles his MPs, they cannot total to 80, Kalonzo on the other hand has less than 20 MPs and Mudavadi doesn't even have 10 MPs," Ruto said.
The DP further claimed that if elections were to be carried out on this day, UDA would take home most of the seats in the National Assembly. "As of today, MPs who are in UDA are 150," Ruto said.
Delving into the critical matter of national unity, Ruto accused Raila, Kalonzo and Mudavadi of playing tribal politics through their parties which Ruto termed as tribal and regional based.
"The way to build and drive politics of unity in Kenya is through organising political parties that do not divide Kenyans," Ruto stated.
Ruto argued that national unity cannot be arrived at when political parties are regional.
"It takes a lot of sacrifice and a lot of goodwill to build a national political party in Kenya. The way to unify the nation is to work with leaders from across the political divide, from across communities so that we can build a national political parties where every Kenyan can feel included," Ruto said.
