The war of words between officials pitting President Uluru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto’s camps over leadership of the Jubilee Party has escalated with calls for Deputy Secretary General Caleb Kositany to be expelled for alleged indiscipline.

Officials allied to nt Uhuru, who is also the party leader, are now demanding that action be taken against Kositany who they accuse of maligning the party.

The move follows a demand by the Soy MP that he be furnished with the party’s books of account for the last four years.

“Kositany has of late been politicising every matter to do with the party. It is a high time that action is taken on him in accordance with the party Constitution,” said Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega.

He dismissed Kositany’s claim that he had been denied documents to show how the party utilises its funds, terming it a political gimmicky.

Kega said that the books being sought were available in the Auditor General’s report.

But in a quick rejoider, a section of MPs allied to Ruto warned that they will be moving to court should the party fail to act.

“We will have no option but to seek leagl redress if the party does not respond to issues raised by Kositany,” said Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri .

In a rebuttal, Kositany who on Monday wrote a letter to party Secretary General Raphael Tuju demanding the books, insisted that his push for accountability was unstoppable.

“As a contributor and a person who pays taxes I have a right to know exactly how the money is being utilised,” said Kositany in an interview with the People Daily. But Tuju termed Kositany’s letter as “desperate political posturing.”

Cash withdrawals

“I have received your letter in which you demand to be furnished with audited accounts of the Jubilee Party, which you have signed off as the Deputy SG.

“May I inform you that all these expose an extreme form of megalomaniac behaviour. Unfortunately, in this office, we do not have the capacity or qualification to deal with such malady,” Tuju said.

Kositany also wants the party to provide the pay roll of all the staff members including that of the Secretary General and all the projects that are currently on going.

According to Kositany, the Auditor General’s 2018 report shows that the party made cash withdrawals amounting to Sh193 million which cannot be accounted for.

“What was the money meant for?  We have had no activities since 2017, there are no known functions. Not even the National Delegates Council, no Parliamentary Group or any other meeting and yet millions have been spent.

What the leadership and those opposed to should realise is that I am asking on behalf of all the MPs, MCAs and members in general,” Kositany said during an interview.

He added: “When we formed the party, we were told the building that houses the party headquarters was donated by a supporter but now right now we are paying Sh98 million annually for rent and yet we are occupying 45 percent of the building. This is ridiculous.”
