President Uhuru Kenyatta has fired Kenyatta National Hospital board chairman Nicholas Gumbo.

In a gazette notice dated 21st April, the President replaced him with George Opondo who will serve for a period of three years beginning 21st April, 2020.

Gumbo was appointed as the board chair of Kenya's largest referral hospital in May, 2019.

He was to serve for a period of three years.

It is not clear why Gumbo was relieved of his duties by the President.

Gumbo vied for the Siaya gubernatorial seat but lost to the current Governor Cornel Rasanga in the 2017 elections.

He, however, challenged the outcome of the election claiming that his agents were not given an equal chance to verify the forms.
