UNHCR helps flood victims in Trans Nzoia
The United Nations High Commission of Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday supported families affected by flood in Trans Nzoia County and appealed for more assistance to more than 5000 Families.
An official from the Kakuma based office Magdaline Mutuli oversaw the distribution of mattresses, blankets, kitchen sets and tents which will be distributed to the 5000 families affected by River Sabwani floods.
Speaking at the Trans nzoia County Commissioner’s office after giving the donations, she said plans were underway to assist more victims and asked other well wishers to help affected families in combating the ripple effects of both the corona virus and the floods.
"We are here in Trans Nzoia today to donate blankets, mattresses, tents, kitchen ware and mattresses to the affected families following requests from Governor Patrick Khaemba.
"We plead with the administration to make sure all deserving cases benefit from what we are donating today," she said.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang thanked the UNHCR for the assistance to the affected families mostly those from villages of Namanjalala, Kapsitwet, Lower Bidii, and others affected by water from some overflowing dams.
The County Commissioner thanked special adviser for infrastructure and ICT in the office of the Deputy President Maurice Bisau for his efforts in lobbying for the assistance and challenged other leaders from the county to assist the vulnerable instead of waiting for them to die.
