US donates 1.8m Pfizer jabs to boost Covid vaccination

Kenya testerday received 1.8 million doses of Pfizer vaccines from the US Government to enhance ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The boosts comes even as the government announced it has vaccinated 16.6 million Kenyans, among them 957,702 people aged between 15 and 17 years. 

An estimated 7.8 million others are partially vaccinated while 7,575,103 have received the two doses.

In its latest update, the Ministry of Health  yesterday announced that 252,452 Kenyans have received their third dose- booster doses.

“The latest donations will go a long way in boosting our efforts of ensuring that we have vaccinated close to 20 million people by June,” Covid-19 Vaccine Deployment Taskforce chair Dr Willis Akhwale (pictured) said yesterday.

Ministry of Health officials, led by Port Health Officer in charge at the airport Benjamin Murkomen, received donation, which arrived in the country through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. 

Vaccines were handed over to Murkomen by US embassy officials in Nairobi led by the Public Diplomacy Counsellor Eric Watnik.

“Vaccines will be distributed in Mombasa, Nairobi, Kakamega, Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret counties.
