Lecturers at Moi University’s School of Medicine have vowed to continue with their strike until their grievances are addressed by the management.

The lecturers who are on their 60 day strike have taken issue with the university management which they claim has failed to listen to them.

Led by North Rift Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) chair Dr Darwin Ambuka, the lecturers who also serve as doctors at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Eldoret said the strike has adversely affected activities at the school of medicine as students cannot complete their studies.

“But we have no option but to press on with the strike as this is the message the employer seems to understand. No amount of intimidation will cower us to achieve our objective,” said Ambuka.

The lecturers who downed tools on November 28, 2021 are demanding enhanced clinical allowances amounting to more than Sh50 million.

They have also decried lack of promotions, understaffing and non remittance of statutory third party deductions.
