The hearing of a corruption case where former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu is accused of irregularly awarding of Sh588 million roads tender will resume on October 14.

Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki adjourned the trial after the court was informed that Waititu’s lawyer John Swaka is bereaved.

The prosecution confirmed that they received a letter dated September 14, 2022 from lawyer Swaka who sought to have all the previous hearing dates be taken out of course since he has lost his father.

However, the trial magistrate granted the application for adjournment and ordered the case to proceed with one witness on October 14 before he fixes other hearing dates.

During the last hearing, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) forensic detective Alex Kinyanjui produced documentary evidence showing how Sh221 million was paid to a roads contractor by Kiambu county. Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari, Testimony Enterprises Limited and others are facing trial over the irregular award of over Sh588 million roads tender in Kiambu county.

The officer told the court that from the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), some of the invoices had approval information while some did not.
