Wazito fires another coach two weeks to KPL season kick-off
In what is now turning into a farce, Kenyan Premier League side Wazito have parted ways with head coach Fred Ambani and his assistant Salim Babu a fortnight to the league resumption.
Wazito are now reported to have contacted Kakamega Homeboyz tactician Nicholas Muyoti and former Kisumu All-Stars Assistant coach Jeff Odongo to replace the two.
Sources claim that former Kenyan international goalkeeper Matthew Ottomax Owino has joined the backroom staff.
The bombshell caught players unawares in camp as they prepare for the new season.
Insiders who sought anonymity told People Sport that the pair, as well as the goalkeeping coach Elias Otieno, had seen off their contracts and were therefore not renewed.
Apparently all players and the coaches had signed a six-month contract before the outbreak of Covid.19 with training and build-ups used to monitor their progress.
Another story is that the management is not satisfied with the technical bench especially after their recent 1-2 loss in a friendly away at Zoo Kericho.
Some of the players are said to be on their way out for loan spells even as confusion reigns at the club who were promoted last season to the top tier.
The club management has refused to comment on the issue.
The insider said that the new line-up had already been agreed upon. “It is a matter of time before Muyoti is officially confirmed.
The agreement was done and indeed Kakamega Homeboyz will need to go to the market.
He has been on demand and it is clear the club president was getting fed up with his bench and needed fresh blood.
Also people have to realise that the boss is desperate for results and probably the title,” said the source.
Ambani who made a return last season after being let go in 2019 joins the long list of coaches, both foreign and local, who have been axed by the ruthless club owner Ricardo Badoer.
He is also said to have been unhappy with some of the club decisions especially on recruitment.
Some of the tacticians fired in recent times include Frank Ouna, Melis Medo, Stewart Hall and the youthful Mohammed Mchula.
