A section of political leaders from the Kisii community have sent a message of caution to Deputy President William Ruto over the recent remarks by members of the hustler nation targeting Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang'i.

While addressing the press on Tuesday, August 31, the leaders called out the DP for what they referred to as unwarranted abuses and accusations leveled against their kin.

"We are saddened as a community we have heard for a very long time the Deputy and his team always abusing and accusing Matiangi over what is happening in government," Borabu MP Ben Momanyi said.

According to the Abagusii leaders, DP Ruto should know that when he attacks Matiangi he is attacking the entire community.

"We are not going to take it lying down. We will deal with that Deputy President when the time comes. We saw over the weekend during Senator Victor Prengei's funeral, these people do not even regard the bereaved family. We saw them even abuse President Uhuru Kenyatta which is uncalled for, which is very bad," Momanyi said.

While describing President Uhuru as a very good person and wonderful fellow, the leaders argued that if it was Ruto who was being abused as President Uhuru is, supporters of his deputy would have paid dearly.

"The President is the symbol of national unity. Why is Ruto roaming around the country? He should know that he is just a Deputy President," the leaders said.

The statement by the Kisii leaders comes after Ruto dismissed the Parliamentary summoning of CS Matiang'i to shed light on the move by government to replace GSU officers guarding his residences with Administration Police Officers.

While responding to splash story on People Daily newspaper on Tuesday, the DP said it was a waste of time for Parliament to summon the CS.

"Parliamentary time should not be wasted on non-issues. The Administration Police is a professional security service and those who think it's a down grade are wrong. Parliament should instead focus on deployment to serious security situations in areas where bandits are causing mayhem and destruction," the DP said.

Committee on Administration and National Security of the National Assembly has summoned the country’s security chiefs led by CS Matiang’i to appear before it tomorrow (Wednesday) to shed light on the replacement of DP Ruto’s security detail.

The committee has also asked Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to accompany Matiang’i to the meeting.

Committee chairman Peter Mwathi (Limuru) while confirming the meeting said Matiang’i and the IG are expected to appraise members on what led to the changes in Ruto’s security system.

“We want them to shed light on whether the action they took is within the law and if not we will have no option but to make the law followed,” Mwathi told People Daily.
