Wetang’ula urges probe into alleged Covid-19 funds theft
Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has asked State agencies to expedite investigations into alleged embezzlement of funds meant to fight coronavirus.
Speaking in Liavo in Trans Nzoia County on Sunday, Wetang’ula also demanded that Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission unravels the rip-off of billions of shillings, which, he claims has ended up in individual pockets at the expense of ailing Kenyans.He lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for ordering for a full audit of the funds.
“As a party, we are fully in support of President Uhuru in unraveling the mystery behind the theft of billions of shillings meant to fight coronavirus. These investigations should be extended to counties,” he said.
Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa and his Kwanza counterpart Ferdinand Wanyonyi on the other hand also noted that theft allegations at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) had maligned the country’s image.
“It is a shame that some people can collude to steal by overpricing commodities necessary for the fight against coronavirus,” said Wanyonyi.
Wamalwa on the other hand noted that anyone found to have misappropriated public funds meant to procure protective gear to support vulnerable Kenyans against the impact of the virus should be prosecuted.
He also hit at the Orange Democratic Movement for allegedly defending those suspected of stealing Covid-19 funds, and dismissing reports that money had been stolen at Kemsa.
