You have our blessings, elders tell Oparanya, Atwoli in push for unity
Elders from Western region have thrown their weight behind the push for Luhya unity spearheaded by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
Speaking at different events in the region graced by Oparanya and Wamalwa, the elders urged the trio to push for development in the region.
In a consultative meeting in Vihiga, area Council of Elders chair Fred Omido called on the three leaders to lobby for revival of collapsed industries to boost the region’s economy.
“We want Oparanya, Atwoli and Wamalwa to use their closeness to the President to attract development in our region,” they said.
The elders urged political leaders from Western region to put their selfish political interests aside and work together.
“We want to benefit from the National government through our leaders,” said Omido, adding: “Empty talk and witch-hunting will not add any value to the development of our Luhya unity and economy. What we want is progressive politics.”
Wamalwa and Oparanya asked elders to rally residents to support the government to ensure they benefit from the National cake.
“ It is good for our people to support the government and invest in it if they want to reap the dividends,” said Wamalwa.
The CS said he is hopeful they will use their influence in the government to ensure industries are revived and new ones established.
“Sugarcane is the main cash crop for our region and there is need to make joint efforts of rescuing the sector,” said Wamalwa.
