Athletics Kenya starts to register coaches and camps

Athletics Kenya (AK), this week started the registration process of coaches in a bid to instil discipline, enhance training and proper management of camps.

AK president Jackson Tuwei revealed that the exercise is expected to take a month saying the list of coaches and their data will be handed over to the Registrar of Sports.

Tuwei said AK saw the need to capture the data of the tacticians adding that registration will restore professionalism among the coaching fraternity. He said going forward it will be easier to deal with those found culpable of spoiling sports.

He made the remarks at the 181 playing ground in Sotik town, Bomet County on Saturday during the Third AK Cross-Country series.

“We are rolling out a programme to register the coaches so that we know who is who. This exercise will assist us to deal with a few of the tacticians who are not doing the right thing”, Tuwei said.

Additionally, Tuwei said the exercise will also help in the fight against doping which has become rampant thus tarnishing the country’s name in the athletics circles.

He disclosed that rules and regulations governing the camps will also be reviewed going forward arguing that AK is out to run athletics professionally.
