Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and Azam TV have reached an agreement for the Tanzanian-based company to transmit live the eagerly awaited Mashemeji Derby between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia on Sunday.

On top of that, Azam TV will also televise the match pitting title-chasing Tusker against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday.

Azam confirmed the latest news on their Twitter handle by stating: “It will be Kenya Super Weekend, we are crossing the borders and have now landed in Kenya. Do you know the Mashemeji Derby? We will be live from Nairobi from Saturday.”

The statement added: “And do you know the battle between Tusker and Kariobangi Sharks? It will be AFC Leopards vs Gor Mahia and Tusker vs Kariobangi Sharks inside Azam Sports HD on May 13 and May 14 respectively from Nairobi.”

When reached for comment, FKF CEO Barry Otieno confirmed to People Daily Sports that indeed the two parties had reached an agreement with Azam TV to air the two top-flight matches. “It is true the derby [between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia] will be transmitted live courtesy of Azam TV, we have already agreed on everything, signed a deal and the game will be live,” Otieno told People Daily Sports though he could not divulge details of the deal signed.

“Azam will also televise Tusker vs Kariobangi Sharks; and so in total, they will air two matches this weekend.”

On whether Azam will eventually come in as an official broadcast partner with FKF from next season, Otieno said: “That discussion is still ongoing but let us wait and see what comes out. We wait for the contract to be signed first and when the deal is complete, I will let you know.”
