KCB Women’s Volleyball Team hammered Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) 3-0 in their opening match of the new Kenya Volleyball Federation league at the Nyayo Stadium.

The bankers won by straight sets of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-18 respectively to seal their day’s win in a clash that saw incomers make their debuts for the team.

Head Coach Japeth Munal started his favourite six in the first set with Captain Edith Wisa leading a team comprised of Libero Lincy Jeruto, Miriam Wamaitha, Shirleen Maiywa, Immaculate Nekesa and Malkia striker’s Mercy Moim.

Speaking after his victory, KCB Head Coach Japheth Munala said: “KDF is a team we know very well, we prepared accordingly for this clash and as you saw, we were dangerous offensively with Juliana Namutira, Mercy Moim causing all sorts of problems to our opponents. I am proud of the entire team for their collective effort and we now await our next opponents in the next leg of the league.”

Buoyed by their Patron and Chairman who were in the stands, the Lionesses made a strong intent in the first set creating a huge gap for their opponents who couldn’t close in. Mercy Moim and Edith Wisa giving away easy points in their services. A department Munala has promised to work on.

“Our first set was crucial in setting the tone of how the game would go but we are still struggling with our services. As we head back to training next week, we need to improve this aspect of our game so that we do not give away points cheaply,” added Munala.

Elizabeth Lemosiany, Esther Mutinda and Faith Cherotich were all handed their debuts. KCB was set to play Kenya Army yesterday but they did not show up for the competition.

The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) will announce the fixtures and venues of the second leg of the league.
