Basketball audited reports ready for scrutiny, says federation official Kisoi
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) acting Secretary General (SG) Ambrose Kisoi says the federation’s audited reports are ready and members will be able to scrutinise them ahead of the January 23 elective Annual General Meeting (AGM).
According to the KBF constitution Article 16, a copy of auditors’ report on the accounts and statements as well as a copy of the statement of accounts for the period during the current year shall be furnished to all members at the same time as the notice convening a Council Meeting or an AGM is sent out.
A notice should be send at least 21 days before the AGM. KBF sent out their notice of elective AGM on December 16, 2020, but, against their own constitution, the said financial reports were not attached.
KBF elections were scheduled for April 25, 2020 but restrictions on movement and gatherings due to Covid-19, issued on April 6, 2020, made it impossible for the AGM to take place hence the postponement.
However, documents in our possession show that even the notice of AGM for the abandoned elective AGM last year, which was issued on February 13, 2020, was not accompanied by the audited reports for the period ending December 31, 2019.
“I have received several requests from members for the reports. National Executive Committee (NEC), however, needed a meeting to go over the reports before they are presented to members.
The meeting was held last weekend and they are now ready to be sent out to members for their scrutiny ahead of the AGM next weekend,” expressed Kisoi.
A member who had requested to be furnished with the audited reports last year without much success told people sport that the federation had a habit of presenting the reports to on the day of the AGM this giving members no time to properly scrutinise them.
As for the voter register that should be presented to the returning officer upon the dissolution of NEC by the SG, Kisoi says it would have been ready had all the members presented their delegates for updates on the current register. The names should be submitted to the SG, at least 14 days before the AGM.
Branches, Clubs, Commissions, player association and wheelchair basketball clubs each present two delegates, one of which is alternative, for the register of those eligible to vote.
“I have received names of delegates from 30 branches, which are the counties.
