Brookside Dairy’s resumption of sponsorship for the secondary schools’ Term 1 games have been hailed as an important step in sports talent development for youth in the country.

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) secretary general David Ngugi commended the milk processor for supporting the games once again, following disruptions by the Covid pandemic, two years ago.

“We are grateful to Brookside Dairy, who have been instrumental in helping our young talented sportsmen identify their talent at the schools’ games. The company has ensured that there is equity and parity among all students taking part as they have provided all of them with playing kits,” Ngugi said.

Teachers and coaches averred that the kit imported by the processor was crucial in providing motivation to all teams.

“Every team takes to the pitch exuding confidence. The kits are also high quality. Eventually, only the best teams win,” Conrad Wekesa, a handball trainer from Western, said.

Brookside Dairy’s corporate communications manager Wilson Okong’o said the processor had put in a sponsorship package worth Sh14.5 million to kit all players at the games.

“We are glad to make a comeback to the games. This year, we have sponsored the games to the tune of Sh14.5 million, which will mainly go towards kitting the players,” Okong’o said at Moi Girls School, the venue of yesterday’s athletics championships.

He continued: “We shall continue supporting the games because they offer a perfect launch pad for talented students to discover their prowess in the various sporting disciplines. Over the past 12 years, we have watched with satisfaction as the games, which we have sponsored all along, produced the best of talents, with many students eventually rising to the international competition ranks across the sporting disciplines.”
