Chebet, Ebenyo win ol-Kalau leg of AK’s cross country race

Daniel Ebenyo Simiu who is enjoying top form won the senior men’s 10km race during the fourth leg of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country series held in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County at the weekend.

 Simiu won the race in a time of 29:29.1 beating 371 other participants.

 World Half marathon gold medalist Kibiwott Kandie took the second position in 29:35.2 while the third place went to Cornelius Kemboi in 29:36.4. The podium finish trio exchanged the lead until the last half kilometre where Simiu engaged a higher, dropping his two close rivals.

 Fast upcoming youngster, Emmanuel Kiprop was fourth in 30:06.5.

Beatrice Chebet won the corresponding race for senior women in 34:23.3, ahead of Cynthia Chepng’eno who clocked 34:24.7 and Naomi Chepng’eno who clocked 34:27.5.

Third spot

 The Cross Country meet was held at the Ol-Kalou Arboretum.

 The World Under 20 3000m steeplechase champion Faith Chepng’etich showed her might by winning the junior women’s 8km race in 20:02.8, Sheila Chebet was second 20:22.2 and the third position went to Miriam Chepkurui, 20:28.2.

The World Under 20 1500m men champion Reynald Kipkurui finished second in the junior men’s 8km race in 23:55.1. The race was won by Ishmael Kirui from Torongo in Baringo in 23:46.6 while the third spot went to Denis Kipkurui in 23:59.8
