Coach Curtis Olago proud of KCB top display
KCB bagged the biggest score of the weekend after a 39-8 win over Nondescripts but the defending champions head coach Curtis Olago believes the team should have scored more points despite a red card in the first quarter of the match.
“I believe the score did not reflect how we played because it could have been more.
The boys really put a good shift out there to get those points playing 14 men almost the entire game, we put a good effort to get the bonus and it’s always good to bag the extra point,”Olago told People Sport after the win.
“We are still a work in progress and I can say we are at about 50 if not 40 per cent.
We are geared on progressing so it will be another week to clean out the mistakes we did today as we regroup to check out our next opponent and see the contest that awaits us.”
Captain Curtis Lilako tore through the Red Lion’s defense to draw first blood but conversion left the score 5-0 for a transient period as Kenyan international Johnstone Olindi scored the second try moments later.
The second try by Olindi sparked emotions in the match and Nondies backrower and captain Steve Odhiambo was sent to the sin bin to give a one man advantage to the Bankers who were not shy to make the most out of it and by half time a bonus was already deposited courtesy of a 22-3 lead at the break despite their debutant Smith Muhoya being shown a red card for a dangerous tackle.
Thet fly half had a good day bagging two conversions and a try as the half back scored the fifth try of the game on resumption while Johnstone Olindi returned for his second try that pushed the score to 32-3. Aseventh try by substitute Felix Ojoo sealed the 39-8 win.
Build plan
Nondescripts head coach Foxy Willis Oja expected a tough match fielding a squad whose half was purely new in the top flight league.
“We have not played for almost 18 months and as our first game it was not going to be easy especially playing against the defending champions when 12 out of the 23 players we had were playing Kenya Cup for the first time and four players are actually straight from high school.”
“Everyone expected us to lose by over 50 points but we came here with a plan. Our focus is on building a brand.”
