Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee has confirmed that the Kenya Premier League (KPL) season will commence on August 27, 2022.

This comes just two months after last season’s campaign that saw Tusker Football Club (FC) crowned the champions.

On the other hand, the Kenya Women Premier League will kick off on September 3, 2022, as titleholders Vihiga Queens embark on their quest to defend their title while at the same time showcase their prowess in the lady’s competition.

Vihiga Queens expect equal challengers Ulinzi Starlets to mount up a challenge in their pursuit for a podium finish.

Leagues and competitions chairman Ali Amour confirmed that it’s all systems that go for the top tier which returns under the expert hand of an interim management team led by Major General (Retired) Maurice Oyugi.

“We are currently organising a conference meeting of all KPL clubs where we will lay on the table our plans and strategies to make the top tier one of the best leagues in Africa. This is one of our top priorities as Transition to leave in place a proper structure geared towards the development of our soccer” he said.

The announcement by the caretaker committee comes in the backdrop of KPL record champions Gor Mahia unveiling Betafriq as their main sponsors for the upcoming season.

The move by the club’s top management was crucial after the team struggled last season to make ends meet as players boycotted training sessions and missed a number of top-flight matches.

In the just concluded season, Gor managed a third-place finish after accumulating 58 points from 34 matches, while rivals Tusker were crowned on goal difference after garnering 66 points.

In the same breath, teams have already kicked off their preparations ahead of the gruesome season ahead with defending champions Tusker FC players undergoing the first stage of the physical medical checkups.

“Ahead of the start of pre-season training set to start this week, the players underwent the first stage of physical medical checkups, overseen by our head of medical, Dr Wycliffe Makanga,” Tusker wrote on their social media pages.

AFC Leopards have also not been left behind despite head coach Patrick Aussems future hanging in the balance due to unpaid dues. Ingwe on Sunday beat Nzoia Sugar 8-7 through penalty shoot-outs to win the inaugural Elijah Lidonde Memorial Cup at Bukhungu Stadium.
