Special tributes have continued pouring in for Kenya’s fallen third President Mwai Kibaki and especially from the fraternity of golf in which he was an active member.

Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman Peter Kiguru said he had learned of Kibaki’s death with profound shock and described him as a leading light in shaping golf sport in the country.

Kiguru chronicled Kibaki not only as a shrewd golfer but a pillar of the sport and who shall be dearly missed by the sport’s fraternity.

“Kibaki was an inspirational figure in Kenyan golfing circles. He touched the lives of the golfing community in the country in deeply personal ways.  During his reign as KGU patron, he was at the forefront in the development of the game and to say that we shall miss him will be a gross understatement,” Kiguru said.

KGU North Rift representative Moses Tanui also eulogized Kibaki as a great golf enthusiast who had the love of the sport at heart.

“His achievements will continue to inspire both the experienced and upcoming golfers. We shall always love him even in death and may God rest his soul in eternal peace,” Tanui said.

Meanwhile Athletics Kenya (AK) boss Jackson Tuwei reminisced him for his active role in the upgrade of local stadiums in his bid to improve sporting talents and especially athletics.

“I remember that it was during his time that the work began on the rehabilitation of Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret. Even before his retirement he wanted the facility in Uasin Gishu County to become world class and continue churning out great runners for Kenya,” Tuwei said.

Several quarters have it that he took no prisoners in his revered sporting discipline and to those who were acquainted with him, they will remember him as a person who could easily win a contest.

He had a knack of spending most of his free time at Muthaiga Golf Club playing the game he loved most if he was not at State House.
