Inaugural Nakuru City Marathon set for Nov 28

Nakuru County in conjunction with Stanbic Bank have launched the inaugural Nakuru City Marathon scheduled to take place on November 28.

The race which will take place in Nakuru Town will see participants run in five, 10, and 21 kilometres.

Stanbic Bank chief executive officer Charles Mudiwa during the launch at the weekend said Nakuru was best suited for the event.

Mudiwa said the bank was heavily investing in athletics adding that in a decade the marathon will be the premier event in Kenya’s athletics calendar.

He stated that winners of the 21km race (both men and women) will bag a cash prize of Sh500,000 with 10km winners taking home Sh100,000.

“We will reward runners up to position 15 and there will also be a 5km fun race for families and corporates,” said Mudiwa.

Organisers are targeting  3,000 participants of  which 200 will be elite runners.
