Legendary rugby player Collins Injera is optimistic his experience in the rugby team will inspire the current crop of rugby players to qualify for the 2023 World Cup in France.

According to Injera, the time is ripe for the national fifteens rugby team to rub shoulders with the big boys of world rugby.

The country’s all-time top try-scorer said going to the weekends is a crucial assignment, the team’s focus is to qualify for the global sporting bonanza which will be the first time the national team has qualified for the event.

“We embrace the fact that if we do qualify it is a big thing for the nation and the upcoming players, so for us, we’re just focused on that one assignment, and hopefully we’ll get it done,”Injera stated.

According to the pacy winger who is well known in the shorter version of the rugby game for his exploits and understanding of the game believes if the Paul Odera-coached side qualifies for the rugby world cup, it will automatically open many doors in terms of game development in the country.

“I think specifically for the 15s game of rugby is a plus for us to qualify for the World Cup because it’ll open many doors and many things will open up in terms of game development in Kenya and Africa as a whole,”Injera stated.

The Mwamba RFC winger who had hinted he would retire earlier this year was included in the travelling squad after an impressive performance in the just concluded Currie cup tournament staged at the RFUEA grounds the cathedral of local rugby.

He will team up with Fijian-born Jonah Kubu, KCB winger Jacob Ojee and Darwin Mukidza in the back three of the national team as they seek to steer the nation to its first-ever showpiece. -Benson Mbare
