The Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) Inter-Banks Sports competition officially kicked off over the weekend at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.

KCB Bank made a strong intent to cause major upsets over its competitors when the tag of war team overpowered an energized CBK side during the opening ceremony.

Speaking after witnessing the win, KCB Group Human Resources Director Japheth Acholla said: “For the last two years when we haven’t had the games staged, we felt we were losing our influence.

“But with this return, we believe we are well prepared to showcase our mettle and our win portends what we have in store in the various sports categories.

KCB has 19 teams participating in this competition which has attracted over 5,000 participants who are competing in various sports disciplines including golf, football, volleyball, drought, darts, netball, handball and basketball.

Scola Onsongo of KCB scooped the long drive award in the Golf Open Tournament that was staged yesterday at the Muthaiga Golf Club where Stanbic Bank emerged the overall winner.

The football team has already secured a spot in the quarter-finals that will be played from today having rounded their whole record with a 1-0 victory over tournament debutants, the University of Nairobi.

The competition ends on October 29th, 2022, when winners will be awarded in each of the categories.
