Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga bagged a brace in St Mirren's 3-1 win over FC Edinburgh in the Scottish League Cup match played on Saturday 23 July at Paisley 2021 Stadium.

Mirren were quick off the blocks, scoring the first goal within the first 10 minutes. Robbie McIntyre fouled Ayunga and a penalty was awarded to the Saints. Mark O'Hara sent the goalie the wrong way from 12 yards to give the Saints an early lead.

Ayunga's goal ruled out

In the 16th minute, Ayunga beautifully met a cross from the right, but his goal was ruled out by the offside flag. He returned to the scoresheet on the 25th.

Ethan Erhahon's brilliant through pass found debutant Keanu Baccus sprinting into the box, and the Australian picked up Ayunga with a low cross across the face of goal. To score his third goal in the competition, Ayunga beat FC Edinburgh goalie Sam Ramsbottom.

Edinburg's keeper had to work hard to deny Ayunga another goal in the 32nd minute and Mirren went to the break leading 2-0.

Ayunga scores after 46 secs

46 seconds after the restart, Ayunga headed Richard Tait's cross from the left, and while Ramsbottom got a hand to it, he couldn't keep it out of the net.

FC Edinburgh cut the deficit when a long pass from Kieran MacDonald found Handling, who had gotten clear of the Saints' defence before converting from 20 yards.

Ayunga was subbed off at the 62nd minute of the game. It is the second time in a row that the forward is bagging a brace in this competition.

On 16 July he netted twice as they beat Cowdenbeath 2-0 for their second win in this competition. They have six points in Group E after four matches.

Ayunga received his first call-up to the Kenya national team on 5 August 2016 but never played.
