US-based Kibunguchy confident he’ll play for Harambee Stars

Kenyan footballer Nabilai Kibunguchy based in the United States, holds strong confidence in his prospects of playing for Harambee Stars in the future.

Currently plying his trade with Orlando City B, a team in Major League Soccer Next Pro, Kibunguchy is yet to receive a national team call-up.

Nonetheless, in a recent post that appears to be an earnest plea, the defender has made his intentions clear about representing the Engin Firat-coached national side.

"I will play for my national team one day…speaking it into existence," he posted

Kibunguchy's soccer journey includes a stint with the Sacramento Republic from 2015 to 2016, where he made 30 appearances and scored one goal.

During his college years, Kibunguchy showcased his skills while playing college soccer for the University of California, Davis, from 2016 to 2019. Over this period, he accumulated 52 appearances, netting 3 goals, and contributing 2 assists.

His college achievements are notable, with recognitions such as being named to the All-Big West Conference First Team, Big West All-Freshman Team, and Big West Conference All-Academic Team in 2017.

He also earned spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region Second Team and All-Big West Conference First Team in 2019.

Nabilai Kibunguchy desire

In 2019, Kibunguchy expanded his horizons by making an appearance in the USL League Two with the San Francisco Glens, earning recognition as a part of the Western Conference All-Star Team.

His professional journey took a significant turn when he was selected as the 18th overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota United on January 21, 2021.

Subsequently, he officially joined the team on April 3, 2021. Later that year, on May 27, 2021, Kibunguchy embarked on a loan spell with the USL Championship side Sacramento Republic for the remainder of the 2021 season.

Following the conclusion of the 2022 season, Minnesota declined to exercise his contract option, leading Kibunguchy to sign with Orlando City B in MLS Next Pro for the 2023 season.
