Kisia wins Division One of 2022 NCBA golf series

Royal Nairobi Golf Club’s Lucy Kisia carded a round of 42 points on Saturday to top the leaderboard at the end of the play to claim the Division One win of her home club’s leg of the 2022 NCBA Golf Series.

The handicap 22 player shrugged off stiff competition from Fridah Shiroya (handicap 20) who carded 40 points to claim the runner-up position.

In the Division Two category, handicap 24 Fred Obwora’s 40 points were enough to earn him the top honours, edging out Derick Owuor (handicap 24) by a solitary point.

In the third division, Simaloi Mbeya playing off handicap 44 was the champion having carded a round of 43 points. He beat handicap 47 Kalee Maleli who posted 41 points to emerge second.

Bragging rights

Meanwhile, handicap 19 Lydia Mokaya carded 40 points to emerge the winner in the Ladies Category.

At the same time, Kimani Gicheru posted an impressive 35 points to claim the bragging rights among the juniors, beating second-placed Wambugu Ikinu by a single point.

In the Nines challenge, Duncan Kivuitu playing off handicap18 and Lucas Oluoch (handicap 14) were the stars in the first and second nine respectively, each having carded 22 points.

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony Lennox Mugambi, NCBA Group Director for Asset Finance said, “We have witnessed a great golfing display today which is something that, as a bank, we are so proud of. The tournament is only just getting competitive and there are some really exciting times ahead for everyone involved in this series.” 

“This being the twelfth event under the series, it has been nothing but a great journey so far. We are pleased by the tremendous support that we continue to receive from the golfing community across the country which has been instrumental in the success that we have had in the series. We are cognizant that golf has been a great game for generations and therefore we see this as a great way of bringing more people into the sport,” he added.

Following the event, the Series now takes a break and will head to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on its return on 27th August 2022 before proceeding to Vetlab Sports Club on 3rd September 2022.
