Kakamega County allocates Ksh570M for B*kh**gu Stadium construction
Governor Fernandez Barasa has announced that the County Government of Kakamega has allocated Bukhungu Stadium 570 million in this financial year to fund the comprehensive upgrade of the stadium.
Initiated in 2013, the stadium's renovation journey began with a goal to impart a transformative facelift to the venue.

Notable progress has been made, including the construction of a contemporary VIP stand equipped with a modern office block and facilities.
Furthermore, the stadium's boundaries have been clearly defined, boasting ample parking space to accommodate visitors. 
The subsequent phase of the rehabilitation initiative involves the construction of versatile terraces encircling the stadium, coupled with a roofing structure for added comfort and weather protection.
The impending completion of this phase promises a venue that can hold up to 30,000 individuals. The development plan encompasses the installation of a high-quality tartan track, facilitating track and field competitions, and accommodating large-scale events beyond football.
Governor Barasa expressed pride in the outstanding performances of local teams participating in the ongoing Kenya Secondary School games.
Bukhungu a flagship project
He conveyed his enthusiasm for the future of Bukhungu Stadium, which stands as a flagship project for Kakamega County.
He said the construction progress has entered the final stretch, with the roofing phase scheduled for completion in the near future. 
The ambitious initiative reflects the county's determination to provide a world-class sporting facility that can host a range of events, from the upcoming Sugar Conference in September to the grand finals of the Governor's Cup later in December and on January 1st.
"I am super proud of the impressive performances by local teams in the ongoing KSSSA games. I have been following the thrilling action virtually due to other work-related engagements.
"Bukhungu International Stadium, which is hosting majority of the games, has been allocated Ksh. 570 million this Financial Year. Construction work has reached the home stretch, with roofing set to be completed shortly," he stated.
"The Stadium, one of our flagship projects, will play host to the planned Sugar Conference in September as well as the finals for the Governor's Cup later in December and 1st of January," he concluded.
Bukhungu Stadium, a historic venue, has played a pivotal role in regional sports for decades. It has been the home ground for prominent teams like FKF Premier League's Kakamega Homeboyz and previously hosted Western Stima and Motcom.
AFC Leopards will be relocating their home matches to Bukhungu Stadium in the upcoming season.
