Kwale MCA tells off Joho over Mvurya co-operation
Kwale County Assembly majority leader James Dawa has told off Mombasa governor Hassan Joho accusing him of interfering in Kwale politics.
Dawa was responding to Joho’s recent call for Kwale MCAs to work with governor Salim Mvurya.
The MCAs are split over Mvurya’s succession with some opposed to deputy governor Fatuma Achani who is the incumbent’s preferred successor.
“Kwale is not a sub-county of Mombasa. So Joho should stop intervening in our Kwale affairs.
We the MCAs are also leaders in Kwale and whatever issues we have with Mvurya are matters of leadership for the benefit of the people of Kwale.
Let Mvurya look for us and sit down with us instead of using Joho and Raila Odinga,” he said.
Joho made the call during an ODM meeting in Mombasa attended by Opposition chief Raila Odinga.
“It was not right for governor Joho to use such words on us when he said that “Kwale MCAs tuko na unoko”. Those were disrespectful words he used against us. Joho should not intimidate us,” he continued.
There are strong indications Achani will use the ODM ticket for the 2022 contest.
Mvurya, serving his second term has been drumming up support for Achani, a move that has not gone down well with some MCAs. The two were in 2013 on an ODM ticket but decamped to Jubilee in 2017.
