Newly-appointed Sports Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke yesterday promised that he would, in his first 100 days be visiting all projects under the ministry to evaluate progress, after consultation with his Cabinet SecretaryAbabu Namwamba.

Mueke who is a former Deputy Governor of Nairobi expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for the task and promised to help his minister deliver.

“I am very excited about this new journey I am taking and I hope we can get on with the work ahead of us. We all want to see Sports and Arts grow in the country because this country has potential. It is important for all of us to know that Sports can be taken as a major driver of the economy. I look forward to working with you all and I believe we will achieve much together.

Task ahead

"I want to thank my predecessor who is a friend for the smooth handover and also for preparing me for the task ahead. I am not a very complicated person but I believe that I am authentic in my style of leadership. As I come in, I want to promise that we will build sports and in my first 100 days in office through the CS, I want to go around doing a baseline and value impact of the projects under the Ministry.” Outgoing PS Joe Okudo pointed out that his regime had put structures in place despite recent challenges.

“This is a very proud but equally mixed feeling for me as I hand over to the new PS. During my tenure, together we grew as a family, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. A lot has been nurtured in the areas of sports infrastructure.

I am happy to say that we forged great teamwork and friendship and indeed worked well with all heads in the Department of Sports. I want to welcome the new Principal Secretary and I wish him well because, given his expertise in governance, I believe he will bring the desired skill sets and knowledge. Mueke is very capable and I know he will do well,” he said.

Namwamba on his part was pleased with the transition, terming it historical and honourable. He vowed to make the Sports and Arts docket as vibrant as possible so as not to be relegated to a mundane docket in Government.

“I take this opportunity to welcome the new Principal Secretary”, he said.
