Kenya U20 defender Opande joins America Club

Rising Stars utility player Faiz Opande has been signed by American side Huntsville City Football Club.

Huntsville City Football Club officially announced the signing of 19-year-old utility player from United Arab Emirates’ FKF Division Two side, Elite Falcons FC.

Opande's acquisition by the American club follows his impressive performance, including seven appearances that contributed to Elite Falcons FC's promotion to Division One.

Opande's journey to Huntsville City FC saw him earn a trial run with Crystal Palace of the English Premier League after his stint in the United Arab Emirates.

He has also represented Kenya in the 2020 CECAFA U17 Championships and is currently part of the nation’s U20 squad.

Matt Cairns, Huntsville City FC Director of Soccer Operations, expressed enthusiasm about Opande's arrival, citing his versatility in midfield and defence as a valuable asset for the team.

Cairns emphasized Opande's energy, tenacity, and ability to make decisive passes in midfield, indicating his potential to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.

“We are excited to have Faiz join our group. His versatility in midfield and defense will be a great asset for the season ahead. Our fans will enjoy his energy, tenacity, and ability to pick a pass in the midfield,” he told the club's official portal.

Opande has already commenced training with the team and is poised to make his debut in Huntsville City FC's match against Chattanooga FC on Saturday, April 20, at Wicks Family Field, Joe Davis Stadium.

Huntsville City FC, based in Huntsville, Alabama, serves as the reserve team of Nashville SC and competes in MLS Next Pro, the third tier of American soccer.

Their home games are played at Joe Davis Stadium, a historic venue formerly used for minor league baseball.
