Police, USIU-A collect points in KHU league.

Kenya Police and United States International University - Africa (USIU-Africa) collected maximum points in mouth-watering Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men’s Premier League matches at City Park Stadium, Nairobi on Saturday.

The law enforcers were 2-1 winners over Sailors a result that saw them move to 17 points going to their final first leg fixture against Wazalendo next weekend. Champions Butali Sugar Warriors lead the log with 18 points.

For USIU-Africa, Lawrence Makhatsa’s late strike was enough to beat favourites Wazalendo 1-0, a result that left head coach Tom Olal praising his side for resilience.

“We have been conceding many goals lately, something I can say was our biggest undoing. Today we played well, first not letting in goals and later making our opportunity count,” said Olal whose side conceded three goals against Strathmore University last weekend.

“It is good to end our first leg on the high. I am sure the players will want to continue with the same momentum once the league resumes for the second leg,” he said.

The tactician further says recent good results against Wazalendo might have come to play once again.

“We beat them over the two legs last season. Somehow that played to our advantage psychologically,” said Olal.

Despite the win, USIU-A stay sixth with an improved tally of 10 points from two wins, four draws and three losses.

In the women’s premier league record Champions Telkom registered their biggest win this season after a 7-0 win over Kenyatta University.
