Kenyan midfielder Zech Obiero has extended his contract with English club Leyton Orient by a further two years.

The club, famoulsy known as O's, has confirmed the development concerning the 19-year-old starlet.

"Leyton Orient are delighted to confirm that Zech Obiero has signed a new deal with the club, putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract," Leyton Orient stated.

He has since gone on to make nine appearances for the club in all competitions, including a first start in League One earlier this month. In this game, Obiero put in a man-of-the-match performance as they claimed a 3-1 victory over Cheltenham Town.

The Kenyan is a product of Leyton Orient's academy and has part of his career growth, he was sent to Cheshunt and Chelmsford City on loan spells.

Obiero recalled his time with the club and said it has been a case of rollercoaster of emotions.

”I’m buzzing. I’m grateful for the opportunities that I have had here, and I am really happy to get it done.

“My journey at Orient has been a rollercoaster of emotions so far, and seeing other younger players such as Charlie Pegrum getting their chances has shown that there is an opportunity for me to kick on as well. I’ve just kept working until I got my chance.

“The whole team has helped me, but players like Jayden Sweeney and Ruel Sotiriou have really helped me coming through as a young lad, and I can relate to them as they’ve come through the academy too," he told the club's website.

The club's Director of Football Martin Ling said the midfielder deserves the new contract.

“Zech thoroughly deserves this new two-year deal here at Leyton Orient. It once again reinforces the excellent work done by our academy players and staff, and he has worked relentlessly for his chance in the first-team, and has taken that chance extremely well in recent weeks.

"It’s important for us to secure the futures of our younger players, and we’re really happy that Zech has committed his future to the club," Ling noted.

Head coach Richie Wellens said he has always been impressed by Obiero.

“Ever since I came to the club, I have been really impressed with Zech. He’s worked tirelessly on the training pitch and after spending some time away from us getting more used to senior football, he has now forced his way into the first-team picture.

"He’s a really exciting player, and one that we believe can play a big part in the future of our squad going forward," the tactician said.
