Olympic 800m silver medallist Ferguson Rotich is happy as the 2021 season edges to a close after he stormed to victory in the Diamond League after crossing the finish line in 1:43.81

The Brussels meeting was the 12th leg of the 2021 Diamond League series ahead of the finals slated for September 8-9 in Zurich, Switzerland, as well as the Kip Keino Classic meeting set for September 18 where he will feature.

“I could not have asked for a better campaign than the one I have had in 2021,” said Rotich.

“For the remaining few races, I wanted to go out there and enjoy each one of them before I can take a much deserved break,” he added.

The Eugene World Championships in the USA next year  is one major event the track star is highly anticipating where he will be seeking to improve his bronze medal from Doha 2019.

Meanwhile, Rotich will grace this year’s edition of Kenya Inter Counties Sports and Culture Association (KICOSCA) Games set for Embu from October 3-10.

Rotich who was recently appointed as a goodwill ambassador for Kericho County where he hails from will be a guest runner, according to KICOSCA secretary general Muraya Kabiri.

Kabiri said the presence of Rotich at the games will be a morale booster for the upcoming athletes from different parts of the country having been approved by KICOSCA governing council to take part in the week-long games comprising 21 disciplines.

He confirmed that 35 will be sending their teams to Embu having missed last year’s edition due to the coronavirus pandemic.
