Royal Nairobi Golf Club emerged triumphant at the 99th edition of Tannahill Shield golf tournament held from March 28 to 31 at the par-72 golf course.

Karen Country Club who finished bottom, have been relegated from next year’s event whereas Windsor Country Club returns to the fold.

The tournament, renowned as one of sub-Saharan Africa’s most prestigious amateur golf events, witnessed intense competition among nine formidable teams from Nairobi, Mombasa, and the Western region of Kenya, all vying for the coveted Tannahill Shield title.

The hosts, Royal Nairobi Golf Club, reclaimed the championship after a five-year hiatus, securing a total of 39 points. They fended off stiff competition from the Western Combined Team who secured a commendable second place with 38 points, closely followed by Muthaiga Golf Club with 36 points.

Sigona Golf Club, the defending champions, showcased their resilience with a strong performance, securing the fourth position with 33 points while Kenya Railway Golf Club and Vetlab Sports Club also delivered notable performances, claiming the fifth and sixth positions respectively.

Amidst the impressive lineup of teams, Mombasa Golf Club emerged as a standout contender, displaying promising talent and determination throughout the tournament. Supported by NCBA as their sponsors, the Mombasa team showcased a commendable performance, securing 28 points and finishing seventh overall.

Expressing optimism for the future, Eric Nyongesa, the team manager of Mombasa Golf Club, remarked, “This year’s Tannahill Shield tournament saw some of the most intense competition we’ve witnessed in recent years. We’re incredibly proud of our team’s performance, and while we didn’t secure the top spot, we’re already working hard to improve for next year. We’re very grateful for NCBA’s support this year, which has been instrumental in our journey.”

As the curtains close on the 99th edition of the Tannahill Shield tournament, Mombasa Golf Club looks ahead with optimism and determination. With their eyes set on next year’s edition, they aim to build upon their performance and make an even greater impact on the course.
