Kabras sugarcoat Kenya Cup win over Menengai

Kabras Sugar savoured a 47-12 redemption worthy win over Menengai Oilers to secure Kenya Cup league courtesy of returning to winning ways in the last round of 2019.

The sugar millers came off an upsetting 20-17 loss to Homeboyz at the Impala Grounds in round eight and needed to secure the win early in the match forcing Du Plessis charges to score six tries and five conversions by the breather to secure the bonus early.

Oilers failed to dissolve Kabras talisman and this seasonal signing from South Africa Ntabeni Dukisa who opened the scores with a converted try and created successful attacks that led to further tries to secure a comfortable 47-12 win in Kakamega. 

Kabras win confirmed the millers defence system by coach Du Plessis has been outstanding having conceded just six tries after 720 minutes of action in the first nine rounds.

Crucial bonus

The maximum tries conceded by the sugar men in a match was just two tries and in three respectively against Nondescripts, Homeboyz and Oilers.

KCB avenged last season sole 27-22 loss by downing Nondies 12-38 to bag a crucial bonus to remain second on the log with 39 points while Homeboyz also maintained third place and a losing bonus for 34 points tally despite a shocking 18-17 defeat to Mwamba at Railways Club.

Impala at home shut Western Bulls 33-13 for a crucial bonus to remain fourth with 30 points while Nakuru sealed fate to rise to fifth place with impressive 25 points off a massive 57-26 away win to Kisumu RFC.

The bonus win for Nakuru gave Wanyore the much-awaited reprieve to go above rivals Oilers by a point, the latter despite the loss to Kabras in Kakamega, occupied the last play off place thanks to a priceless 24 points tie with Mwamba.

Unfortunately Kulabu missed the crucial winning bonus and fell to seventh, head coach Kevin Wambua nonetheless took the four points off a nervy one pointer win with appreciation sitting eight points above next playoffs contender.
