President William Ruto on Thursday, March 28, 2024, flagged off the 2024 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).

Addressing spectators and rally drivers during the flagging off, the Head of State who was accompanied by Sports and Youths Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba hailed this year's rally as a rewarding and beautiful event for the Easter holidays.

He subsequently urged citizens to show up in numbers to support the local teams in the rally which will be held at Loldia Ranch in Ndulele Conservancy, Naivasha for three days.

"This is truly a special Easter holiday gift to millions of families to bond over a thrilling spectacle. You really can't find a rally as tough, compelling, beautiful and rewarding as the one in Kenya," Ruto said.

The president also advocated for the extension of the event to five days as requested by the rally drivers.

“Ababu Namwamba and your team, FIA and WRC, I think it is time you consider the request of our rally drivers,” Ruto said.

The country's first-in-command also expressed gratitude to FIA for returning the event to the country.

The rally which officially starts today features a lineup of 29 drivers.
