The Kenya Rugby Sevens team, Shujaa arrived in France en route to Canada ahead of their Vancouver sevens in Canada this weekend.

Shujaa departed the country at 11:45 pm and will kick off their first leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series against Spain at 8:31pm this Saturday at the BC Place Stadium.

Shujaa will then play their second Pool A match against Mexico at 11.42 pm before completing their last pool match against South Africa at 3:35am on Sunday.

The national team, however, will have to navigate through the assignment without the services of long serving skipper Andrew Amonde, who recently announced his retirement from the national team.

Head coach Innocent Simiyu will look up to senior players like Nelson Oyoo as captain, Willy Ambaka, Herman Humwa, Alvin Otieno, Daniel Taabu, Jeff Olouch and Billy Odhiambo to record positive results.

Simiyu will also rely on his five debutants to make a statement, Timothy Mmasi, Mark Kwemoi, Levy Amunga, Alvin Marube and Derrick Keyoga are set for their maiden World 7s Series appearance.

Shujaa will be aiming for an improved performance this season after a dismal show in the just concluded Tokyo Olympic Games.

The national team finished 12th with 35 points accumulated last year in the series and will be psyched up to put up an improved show.

There will be no relegation nor promotion in this year’s circuit following the Coronavirus pandemic, with Singapore and Cape Town series already cancelled.

The Emirates Dubai 7s will host behind closed doors round on 26-27 November 2021, followed by a second round on 3-4 December 2021 with fans in attendance at the popular event in The Sevens Stadium.
