Botswana sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo is looking forward to a great show at the Kip Keino Classic that will be held at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

The world 100m silver medallist arrived on Wednesday as he is expected to take part in the fifth edition of the Kip Keino Classic show, which is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold.

“I feel it is going to be a great show because I came here and won the junior championships. Now we are back here to see what the future holds for us.

"We don’t know what everyone (other competitors) has been doing behind the scenes. We hope it will be a great show,” Tebogo said as quoted by a local publication.

The Botswanan also explained why he will not let the past glory cloud his focus when he takes on his rivals on Saturday.

“For now, we don’t focus on the past, we need to move on to the next races. If you hold on to the fact that you won a silver medal in the past, you will never progress.

"So, as much as the silver medal is an added advantage, I don’t want to focus on that but to try a new strategy,” he added.

Past records

Tebogo is the 2021 World U20 champion in 100m and his top rivals at Nyayo Stadium will be United States' Courtney Lindsey and Corian Camel, Canada's Brendon Rodney, Henricho Bruintjies of South Africa and Cameroon's Claude Emmanuel Itoungue.

He comes to Kip Keino with an impressive record in the past that includes a 10.19 timing that won him the world 100m U20 title and a silver medal in the men’s 200m.

At Nyayo Stadium will also be Janee Kassanavoid, world silver medallist for the women’s hammer throw. She said her main goal is to have fun as she looks forward to a good season ahead.

“I am going to just have fun and try to knock the rust off. I haven’t competed since August so this is sort of my season-opener. I am looking to open with something big and it would be fun.

“I have been keeping myself in shape and staying healthy all fall. I have been getting strong again and obviously, with the Paris [Olympic Games] on the horizon, it is going to be a big season. It is a good meet this weekend," Kassanavoid said.
