Ulinzi Sharks record double victory in handball league
Ulinzi Sharks had a successful weekend in the Kenya Handball Federation-national Premier League with two wins in the women’s division at the Nyayo Stadium Courts.
In the Saturday game, the deadly Sharks mauled Rising Star 60-12. Sarah Wasike had a game-high 12 goals while the duo of Carolyne Tenko and Euphrasia Mukasa had eight goals apiece for Sharks to lead the Stars 27-3.
Mercy Chepkurui and Diana Karani were also some key players for the Sharks who dominated play in all departments as their opponents struggled in their half.
Stars had four players with two goals apiece in the shape of Sheila Atsachi, Shamira Yusuf, Gaudensia Kangethe and Brenda Apali as three others weighed in with a single goal each.
On Sunday, Sharks spanked Daystar University 55-12 in another show of might. Wasike was once again on fire as she single-scored 16 goals in the game.
Sylvia Oguya and Euphrasia Mukasia weighed with important contributions to the scoreboard as the Sharks led 28-5 at the half. Carolyne Temko and Irene Miti were also as effective in transition as they were with their goals as well.
The University side on their part had Edelainne Akinyi as their top scorer with four goals assisted by Velma Diana in a game that was overwhelmingly against them.
Their defence was constantly being sprung open with waves of attacks from the soldiers.
The Sharks are currently second on the log with 24 points off 13 games with only one loss so far.
In another tie, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) saw off New Hope 28-15 in an entertaining game.
Esther Gathoni was excellent with nine goals with her defensive help also coming in handy for the team.
Magdalene Mumo was on seven goals and two penalty conversions.
JKUAT also defended resolutely when the need arose allowing the opposing side to only breach 15 times with the first half ending 15-9 in favour of the Juja-based side.
