Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has disclosed how his girlfriend footed their rent bills before he built his name in the athletics world.

The sprint sensation, while speaking at an honorary event organized for him by a local betting company, hailed his girlfriend for compassionately supporting him when he was broke.

Omanyala, who has since broken five Kenyan records in the 100-metres race, said that it is now his turn to return the favour to his loving partner.

"She was paying the rent, taking care of the bills because she was working. She would bring the money to the table and say, this is for training, rent and food. I would come from training and find her at home ready to take care of me. She would have warm water ready to massage me, and I felt good," he said.

Omanyala, whose career started on a low in 2016 following a failed doping test, explained how his girlfriend helped him get over the set back that dealt him a big blow.

He was forced to serve a 14 month doping term, a period he says that could have seen him give up on his sprint dream had his girlfriend not offered him a shoulder to lean on.

The sprinter set a new record of 9.76 seconds on Saturday September 18, making him the seventh-fastest runner of all time and the fastest African sprinter.
