Research firm Infotrak has revealed that both Raila Odinga and William Ruto failed to meet the constitutional threshold of 50 per cent plus one vote needed to be president in the first round of voting.

Infotrak on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, released the results of its survey which indicated that Raila leads in the opinion poll with a 42 per cent lead against Ruto who came second with 38 per cent in the popularity race.

Speaking during a press conference, Infotrak CEO Angela Ambitho said the survey was conducted between 23 and 27 May 2022.

She revealed that a total of 9,000 respondents participated in the research which was conducted via telephone calls.

The research firm noted that 11 counties in Coast, Rift Valley, Northern and Western Kenya will decide who will be Kenya's next president since the two leading contenders Raila and Ruto failed to meet the constitutional threshold of 50 per cent plus one vote.

The battleground counties include; Coast (Tana River, Kwale and Lamu), Northern (Turkana), South Rift (Narok, Kajiado), North Rift (Samburu, Nakuru, West Pokot) and Western (Bungoma, Trans Nzoia).

Ambitho noted that Nakuru was a battleground county even though Ruto leads there. She explained that the high number of undecided voters which stood at 30 per cent made it to be a swing county.
